Since 1999, Boyd's Massage Therapy has been serving Ajax and the surrounding community. Located in the heart of Pickering Village, I offer a quiet and relaxing massage environment. My clinic is located at my house but is completely separated from my living space with its own entrance. When we decided to move my office 9 years ago to our house, we wanted to achieve a couple of goals. The first and foremost was it would allow me to spend more time with my children and the second was to make a more relaxing and quiet clinic for my clients. I think I have achieved both. On a personal note, my hobbies include spending time with my family, running cross country skiing, mountain biking and when I have time, reading.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What should I expect during my first visit to Boyd's Massage Therapy?

Once you arrive for your first visit you will be required to fill out a health history form if you haven't already submitted one online. I recommend filling out the form online as it decrease the time of the initial consultation and leaves more time for the actual massage. Then I will review the form with you and assess the areas that need treatment. This consultation is include in the cost of your treatment. I will then explain how to get on the table, then I will leave letting you disrobe and cover yourself with the sheet provided. (Only the area being treated will be undraped). It is important to communicate with me if the pressure of the massage is to strong or if you would like a stronger (deeper) pressure. Also, it is important to communicate any pain or discomfort during the treatment.

Does Massage Hurt?

If you are getting a therapeutic and/or a deep tissue massage, it can be tender and sore at times. But if you are here for a relaxation massage, it shouldn't hurt. I will adjust the pressure to suit you, so it is important that you let me know while you are getting the massage if the pressure is too much. For therapeutic and/or deep tissue massage you may experience some soreness in your muscles for the next day or two. A warm bath with Epsom salts can help alleviate any stiffness and help release any toxins that may have built up in your system. It is also important to drink plenty of water after your massage to help eliminate/flush out the toxins.

What do I wear during the massage?

For a full body massage, most people undress down to their underwear. Ultimately it is up to the client and what he/she is comfortable with. Either way, I will give you privacy to undress and during the treatment you will be covered with a sheet and blanket at all times except the area being worked on.

How will I feel after the massage?

The majority of people feel very relaxed. After an initial period of feeling relaxed and euphoric, people often experience increased vitality, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for hours and even days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during massage, I recommend you drink plenty of water following your massage to help flush out these toxins. A very few individuals may experience a feeling of lightheadedness immediately after rising from the massage table but that usually is from rising too quickly from the table and passes very quickly.

Is massage safe for everyone?

No, there are several medical conditions that would make massage inappropriate. That's why it is necessary that you fill out the health history and before we begin your session I will ask general health related questions to rule out if you have any contraindications to massage. It is very important that you inform me of any health problems or medications you are taking.

Will my skin break-out from the lotion?

I use a professional massage lotion that is hypo-allergenic, but if you have sensitive skin please let me know as I do have alternative lotions and oils that may work for your skin.

My massage is covered by my extended health benefits, how does it work?

Most extended health plans cover massage when performed by a Registered Massage Therapist. Some extended health plans require a doctor's note to be submitted to the insurer. Please check your benefits plan to determine if you need a doctor's note. When you pay for you massage, I will give you a receipt that will have all the information that will be requested by your insurer when you submit the claim to get your money back. Boyd's Massage Therapy does not direct bill your insurance company, you must pay for you appointment up front and then submit a claim to your insurer.
